This is one of my favorite pages from this book. Sorry I don't have a better scan of the inks, but hopefully, showing the layout and pencils will make up for it.
This looks like the kind of cover I'd agreed to ink after just the briefest of phone conversations. A big, hairy monster crawling out of a grave. Cool... I like the evil grin that June put on his face and the way the colorist made it – and his eyes – blood red.
From October, 2003. This one recently made it into DC's licensing department so it may be showing up on Underoos or beach towels near you any day now.
I'd been hearing for years that Gene Colan's pencils were difficult to ink. That might be true in general, but this cover was a piece of cake. My only quibble was with the colorist who did his or her best to over rule us on the light source. Gene clearly placed it above Baron Winter's head but the colorist thought it should go below.
