A random collection of material from comic artist Kevin Nowlan. Started with the best of intentions, but like most other efforts, doomed to perish from neglect as soon as the novelty wears off.

Punisher #6, page seven
I hope the statute of limitations has passed because inking with so little regard for the penciller's hard work should be a crime. Don't ask me what I was thinking because I don't know.
considering that you/we would have very little to no work in your style if you didn't do this, I think you can be forgiven.
It would have been nice, if you could have formed some kind of partnership with someone early in your career to produce work like this. Namely, You working over someone else's layouts like Alex Ross did on Justice and Gene Ha and Zander Cannon were doing on Top 10.
It would be great if you decided to do that one day.
I think what I like about this look is that you weren't overly concerned about thick outlines around characters. Keeping the contours simple and letting the shapes balance themselves between large black spaces and white gives each panel the weight it needs.
I wish I could divorce myself of the thick and thin outlines and get something that looks this attractive.

If it's any consolation, Dave Ross was thrilled with your finishes on this job. Please post more from it! :)
ReplyDeleteit went from EH(shrugs) to Awesome! So no harm no foul.
