It looks like I did at least two 8.5 x 11" layouts for this page. Changing the angle a bit really made the second panel work better. First a tiny thumbnail sketch, enlarged a bit...

This one is a bit of a rerun from last month but I wanted to include it in context.  I'll post page 4 in the morning.

Looks like I was already budgeting my time when I did the thumbnail.  The second panel with all the monsters would make this a "2 Day Page".  The angle of the last panel was determined by the need to sell jeans for Kenneth Cole.

Thumbnail, 8.5 x 11" layout and final art. The writer, Jan Strnad, helped me out quite a bit by writing an "Artist Friendly" script.  He knew that I was working under an impossible deadline and would have to turn the pages around fast, so he wrote a story that could be drawn quickly, including several areas where sound effects would fill up the space normally reserved for background detail. If he hadn't been so obliging this thing never would have been finished on time. The product captions weren't lettered on the board so you're not seeing them here.  This page was selling Motorola phones.

Blatant hucksterism masquerading as a comics section.  The first panel was obviously designed to sell Zippo lighters.
