When Alan asked for "the entire Glenn Miller Orchestra" in panel three I nearly had a stroke. I think Jimmy Palmiotti ended up talking me down from the ledge and pointing out that it wouldn't really be that hard to draw, considering they're all wearing black tuxedoes. Again, arranging the lettering was the bigger challenge.
A tight fit on this page. The lettering really directed the layout.
Drawing a Sergio Aragones character in my own "style" was a bit of a challenge. So I cheated and tried to imagine what he'd look like if Wally Wood had drawn him. Once I started thinking in terms of light and shadow it was easy. From 1995.
This must have been drawn back in the mid-eighties. I found a scan of the finished piece online at Comicartfans and I'll include it here for comparison. The sketch has been hidden away for a couple of decades in my files which could really use some sorting out. Eric Delos Santos appears to be the current owner of the finished piece but I don't think he was the original commissioner. Are you out there Eric?
Update: Here's another prelim for the same commission. I don't know why I started over instead of just adding the shadows to this one. Weird.
