I was sure that I'd end up doing a lot of redrawing, and probably end up looking for photo reference (or a prop baby) but this sequence came together very easily, just working from memory. It even made me smile a little after I finished the third drawing.
The hands really make it.
ReplyDeleteAlso: Welcome back! Please stick around.
ReplyDeleteAnd also: What comic is this from?
Thanks, Sammy. I'm not sure if I have clearance to name the book just yet. Publishers are funny about that stuff.
ReplyDeleteNot sure this is the best way to contact you but had to try. Convoluted story but here goes. One of the joys of my childhood was being given the oversize Superman vs Flash. It was a a Worlworth's dept. store & they were being disposed of. Guy just hands me one. I devoured every inch of that book! I never knew the cover artist. Thought it was Giordano when I was in my 20's but realized I was wrong. I could see the Oksner inks. He always added a certain bulk to characters. My favorite Swan inker! I thought I'd look it up tonight & saw where you confirmed it was by Garcia Lopez which I'd heard once. I can die in peace!! Thank you! I still love that cover. It forever defined the characters for me. When I drew them, Superman would be thick & muscular & Flash lean & tight. (Nobody does much body differentiation nowadays do they?) Anyway, had to share! Best wishes & thanks again! I'd love to know how you knew.

ReplyDeleteHey Stranger.
ReplyDeleteNow that Before Watchmen is over, please write an entry about your involvement in that project, perhaps helping us understand why you contributed a cover to it.
ReplyDeleteHey, Kevin. Hope all is well.
