I don't always do this before I start drawing a story but it seemed like a good idea on this project since I wasn't familiar with all of these characters and was trying out a pared down, less rendered approach.  From 1987.

Killer Croc design for Batman Cartoon

The character design for Killer Croc was a real challenge because in the comics, he was drawn with hundreds of tiny scales.  For the animated series we had to start from scratch and come up with something much more streamlined.  I also wanted to make him look like a wrestler, not a body builder.

This was for the first season of Batman: The Animated Series, "On Leather Wings".  I tried to make everything as simple and streamlined as possible but I think Bruce Timm ended up giving her a longer hairstyle.

Some of my sketches for "On Leather Wings" from the first season of Batman: The Animated Series.  I remember Bruce Timm kept saying he wanted Man-Bat to look bigger.

Not much to say about this one. I did a few super-hero character designs for a Children's book publisher back in 1985. They had some kind of hi-tech book that they were putting together but I'm guessing it never got off the ground.
