I drew several thumbnail sketches for this one; more than you see here. One approach was from a closer angle and almost worked but it didn't show the characters clearly enough. In the context of a story you could show one of the fighters from behind or the back of his head, but for a cover we probably should see both of their faces and as much of their clothing/costumes as possible so they can be identified at a glance.

I Love the cross hatching rendering and the colouring, although i don´t know any of the characters. very magical and suggestive background.
ReplyDeleteThat's a slug-fest worthy of 70's Gil Kane. But with better inking and coloring.
ReplyDeleteI think Black Adam is a great character, he looks like Namor.
ReplyDeleteKevin, a question: The cover, which looks amazing by the way, seems a little different in the inks. Did you find that working on the Hellboy story worked different 'muscles'? There's a loose, improvisatory skill in the inks which reminds me a lot of Williamson.
ReplyDeleteI didn't notice that it was looser but you might be right. And the Al Williamson comparison is the highest of praise, so thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteHey Kevin,
ReplyDeleteNice work...did you color it too?
Yes.
