DC is doing several alternate covers for their 75th Anniversary and here's my contribution; a reworking of Sheldon Moldoff's iconic cover for Batman #112, from 1957. The zip screen in the background will probably create a bit of a moiré pattern on your monitor at the smaller size so be sure to enlarge the final image to full size.

Awesome. So much fun. How on earth are you coloring the stone portions of the building like that?
ReplyDeleteThe textured stuff? I just used one of those rough-edged Photoshop brushes, set at about 30%.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece.
ReplyDeleteI dig the utility belt(s) design and the use of zip tones Kevin. Is that background tone digital or actually the stick-on stuff?
ReplyDeleteIt's digital, but I did my best to make it look like the old adhesive stuff.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I might actually go out and buy the issue just because you've shared this - and I haven't bought a new Batman issue since the Clinton administration!
ReplyDeleteBuy two!
ReplyDeleteLove the face on the stone archway. Is it anybody in particular?
ReplyDeleteNo, it's just a made up face.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kevin! The coloring on that building is so fun!
