Rififi

I'm very happy to see that Turner Classic Movies is showing Jules Dassin's masterpiece Rififi (or Du Rififi Chez les Hommes) tomorrow night. It's a classic Film Noir with one of the coolest heist scenes you'll ever see. I love sooooo many things about this movie, not the least of which is the sad, world weary face of the star, Jean Servais. This sketch doesn't do him justice so I may have to try again some other time.

  1. I will try to find that movie, it's always great to find a new Noir jewel. Thanks! Oh, and awesome drawing too..:D

  2. You captured him perfectly!

Rififi is one of the classic heist movies (worth it for that entire wordless sequence while they break in) it's also one of the influences on Soderbergh's Ocean's 11.

  3. Just bought and watched the Criterion Blu-Ray after seeing your post. Thanks for directing me to a great movie that I would have otherwise never been exposed to.. and I think you captured the sadness in his eyes quite well.
