Superman Unchained #4 variant cover art

I think this book is on the stands now so it should be safe for me to post it here. DC asked for the 1938 version of Superman on this one. That's why the boots and chest emblem look so strange.

Old Bizarro Commission

From 2007. This piece was a real challenge because the commissioner started the series with Brian Bolland's inspired Joker Trophy Wall masterpiece. He asked me to do something similar with Bizarro but I couldn't think of a worthy variation on Brian's theme. I did dozens of sketches, only two of which are shown here, then finally came up with a peculiar idea which seemed to work.

Superman: Blood of My Ancestors pg 22

I've been wanting to post this page but it took me forever to find a copy of Gil's pencils.

Superman: Blood of My Ancestors, page 24

I think this page is a good example of Gil Kane's talent for composition. If you've ever tried to coordinate the movement of dozens of characters in one drawing you'll probably appreciate what he did with the layout in that bottom panel.

This was done several years ago for Dave Johnson, who drew the amazing Superman: Red Son series for DC.

Me hate Bizarro

This one was drawn larger than normal, "twice up" with an image area around 13.5 x 18.5". It takes longer but I like working large like this, especially when the piece has hand lettering.

Superman & Batman commission inks over Howard Porter

Very tight, sharp pencils. Howard's amazing...
