Metamorpho #6: cover sketches, pencils and inks

I don't know why I drew a normal hand on the second sketch, after I'd already worked out the giant pliers/clamp gizmo on the first sketch.

The JLA characters in the background seem to have been worked out in the final pencils. I probably should have nailed down the composition in the sketch stage but it looks like I was getting impatient.

Metamorpho #5: cover sketch, pencils and inks

Rex's expression changed a bit here, from ferocious to slightly worried. I also added more shadows on his face and the battle axe. I cheated a bit on the colors for the "Thunderer". He's supposed to have a pink nose and mouth.

Metamorpho #4: cover sketch, pencils and inks

As I mentioned elsewhere, this was the cover that I colored from (mostly) un-inked pencils. Only the bad guy, his poison gas can and the smoke trail were inked.

Metamorpho #3: cover sketch, pencils and inks

The robot changed a bit from sketch to finishes; a clear sign that I was making it up as I went along.

Metamorpho #2: cover sketch, pencils and inks

Rex is trapped within the Orb of Ra and Simon Stagg is torturing him with static electricity after walking around on the new carpet in his stocking feet.

Not much change here, from sketch to finished art, but you can tell I had lots of fun with the crosshatching.

Six Metamorpho covers

A couple of these had their colors changed before they were published but I still like the originals better. I'll start posting the pencil scans and sketches shortly. In the mean time, who knew that Metamorpho had his own theme song?
