Superman & Batman commission

This is a private commission piece from a few years ago. I really pushed the perspective, especially on the Superman figure.

  1. I don't know if you've covered this already but...it seems that you stick pretty closely to your, " rough to pencil to ink" procedure, are the rough sketches done full size or smaller than the final art?

  2. Smaller. I almost always draw them at 8.5 x 11". Often preceded by thumbnails that are roughly 2 x 3", give or take.

  3. Always loved your work since i was a kid hehe, but i always wondered, why you always drew the upper body "bigger" than the lower body?

  4. In this instance, Superman's upper body is larger because he's flying toward us and as I noted in the description, I forced the perspective to exaggerate the effect.

  5. Man, you really did force the perspective on that one, didn't you? Not that it is bad.

  6. Hey Kevin, thanks for replying.I was referring not to this piece only - sure i/we can see that you dramatized with the perspective to give more power to supes - but with some others too...But i see now, it can be the perspective too...Ok, thanks again man, keep blowing our minds out o/

  7. very very nice. the power in batmans leg hitting the ground is amazing. and him pulling and lifting his cape... i'm a sucker for stuff like that.

  8. It's always fun to try and do something with Batman's cape. I've been trying to give it a little weight, to suggest that it's leathery.

  9. It does seem like your figures have gotten a fair bit more "lanky" in recent years. I started to notice on your Superman covers, which really made him seem quite alien.

I do like the blockier Batman in comparison here, it feels as if he's a tank that's about to run us over!
