Another page from the controversial 1987 fill-in issue. Looks like I changed the lighting when I inked the last panel.

A random collection of material from comic artist Kevin Nowlan. Started with the best of intentions, but like most other efforts, doomed to perish from neglect as soon as the novelty wears off.
Question: Comic art boards were 11"x17" with a pre-ruled 10"x15" safe area. But on DC board nowadays I see a smaller dashed-line "safe area" within the 10x15 solid line. Have they shrunk down the safe area and what are the measurements for this dashed area? 10"x15" art scaled down doesn't seem to fit into this smaller dashed area and I'm going nuts trying to get Manga Studio to emulate Marvel/DC sizes.
ReplyDeleteI don't know... anyone else care to take a shot at this?
ReplyDeleteLove this page , one of my favorite stories of yours.
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin, lovely stuff as usual, but what's the story on the controversial aspect here?
ReplyDeleteAll the mail was negative. The readers hated the art.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the june 26 post I was expecting for some weirdness in the artwork that might have generated such hate, but this page is just as great as usual! I like the last two pages especially.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the idea of posting the hate letters to your blog Kevin, it's both ironic and professional!
Interesting. This was one of the few issues of new mutants I bought, and solely because of your art. Hmmm...
