Strange Tales #18: page one
Script by Terry Austin, pencils by Dan Lawlis. I did the inks and colors. But I didn't know I was going to do the colors until after I finished the inks so there's a lot of Zip-a-tone throughout. I was trying to make the art colorist-proof. Edits by Carl Potts who didn't want to change "lay" to "lie" when I pointed it out to him. Hi Carl!

I always loved the fishnet effect in this piece. Your clean line really made that work!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joe. Those patterns almost hypnotize me when I ink them. I'm working on something now that keeps sending me into a fugue state.
ReplyDeletedude, I used to LOVE your use of zip.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of zip, you did a Punisher job with a lot of zip-a-tone. I think it was for War Journal. I would love to hear your thoughts on that one!
ReplyDeleteAlready posted the Joker in here:

By the way, great rendition on these Lawlis pencils!
I used to buy those Zip sheets by the truckload. Who'd a thunk those little dot patterns could trigger so much nostalgia with us.
ReplyDeleteZip and Letraset lettering! lol God, the days of cutting and burnishing lettering (and tones) on your art seems almost prehistoric now!
