My first real comics work was pencilling Dr. Strange #57 in 1982. This inventory story was going to be my second assignment but after I pencilled a few pages, Marvel asked me to put it aside and take over the art on Moon Knight. The book was cancelled not long after that so the story was never finished.
The originals for first six pages were never returned to me but this page (badly inked with markers... I was still learning) was mailed to me, along with some other odds and ends, about 20 years after I drew it.
that's insane how modern the linework still looks. Most of the time the work will reflect the era a little more, this is just as badass NOW as it was then.
ReplyDeletewell played, sir
maybe we solved the mystery of late books? either way, your bad inks were better than my good...
ReplyDeletepeace out
I wish I could 'badly ink' like this..
ReplyDeletelovely..
Wow. It's very inspirational to see this as I'm doing a Power Man/Iron Fist book myself. Hope you post more of these.
ReplyDeleteI think your work was so established even back then. Very exceptional body language and influential lighting. Thanks for sharing.
I like it and thanks for sharing. It's nice to see where artists came from in regards to learning and applying it.
ReplyDeleteSweet!

those last 2 panels are outstanding !
ReplyDeletestill back then your trademark is there..
ReplyDeletehave to look for your past work in moon knight..
love it.
My Moon Knight work is pretty weak. I inked a few pages at the end of one story but the rest is at the low end of the learning curve.
ReplyDeleteAs someone pointed here, I wish my good inks were so awesome as the ones you made here "badly". The page haves a classical flavour that I really like.
