I really enjoyed inking Jordan's lush rendering on this piece and I'm not just saying that because he's been reading this blog lately. This was drawn in 1993 but it wasn't published until 1995.

I love how you inked the hair. That is something, back in the day when I thought I could ink, I never could grasp the concept and approach to, hair. The whole feathering and highlighting on it is perfect. Just looks so darn natural.
ReplyDeleteSo that leads me to another question for you, is there any part of drawing/inking that you still to this day labor over? I mean, all your stuff just looks so natural so even your struggle still looks amazing!
:::blushing::: You know, I completely forgot about this. You flatter me, Kevin, thank you.
ReplyDeletePatrick, you should ask if there's any part that I DON'T struggle with. It's all difficult, even the stuff that looks easy.
ReplyDeletethe pencils are strong; the inking it´s masterful. but the colouring...
ReplyDeleteHey! THANK YOU for having shared this. I have an old advert that I ripped out of a Wizard guide as a teen and pinned it to my wall. That was a print of this cover and I still have it. Anyway, I Googled Ripclaw Special cover and this post was on the list. I am a kid all over again seeing the pencil and ink work---something I never imagined having access to back in the day before the interwebs. I've downloaded the pencil work and have started testing my patience inking and coloring it with my tablet. :D
ReplyDeleteIt is always so exciting to see the steps involved in any creative process, and your inking is no exception. I hate that it's taken me so long to stumble upon this treasure trove of a blog, but in all seriousness, thank you for sharing. Your lines and coloring have been a silent inspiration to me and many of my friends trying to mimic your work growing up. Thank you for the sharing with us.
