A random collection of material from comic artist Kevin Nowlan. Started with the best of intentions, but like most other efforts, doomed to perish from neglect as soon as the novelty wears off.
What beautiful pencils, Mr. Nowlan. This page does seem to suggest that you work everything out straight onto the board. No lightboxed preliminary sketches at all?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I did at least a little preliminary sketching but for pages like this, with most of the figures being so small, the sketches were very basic. I'd block in the lettering, get a rough idea of how much space was left for the art, then I'd go straight to the boards. There wasn't much need for lightboxing.
ReplyDeleteI'd be totally lost without my prelims and lightbox. Your lettering is awesome too. Thanks for posting so regularly.
