Jack B. Quick: "I, Robert" page 12

The pencil scan for this page is nowhere to be found but here's a fairly tight layout, followed by the inks.  I like Officer Pete's grotesquely swollen bee-stung face.

  1. Hey Kevin, how ya doing?

Panel one is really cool, its like we could see lil Jack running for real, really nice.

If you don't mind telling me a secret of yours...What is your basic material when working?

Well, keep yarself away from giant bees hehe

  2. I'm doing well. Thanks for asking.

My basic material is just that: basic. Pencil on typing paper for layouts, India ink in a quill pen for finishes. Nothing fancy.

  3. Oh, and I use a ruling pen for inking panel borders. I finally gave up on Rapidographs a few years ago. They're too flimsy. Ruling pens are practically indestructible and they can be adjusted to give you a different line width. The one I'm using is at least thirty years old and still works like a charm.

  4. Thank you, for aswering.

Cool, being a complete comic book artist lets you do that i guess hehe, i'm still on the pencil stage, but i fool around sometimes with ink wash tho'.

I'll buy those pens to try it out sometime...Any nice tip for a rookie inker?

  5. Yes, don't ink with a Sharpie or any of the other non-lightfast markers unless you want to see your work morph into something ugly a few years down the road. Stick to India ink, applied with a good sable brush or a dip pen.

  6. Boy, I've said this a number of times, I miss Jack. They need to just collect all the Jack B. Quick stories in one nice hard cover.
