Jimmy Palmiotti asked me to do this cover for a book he was editing in 2001. He wanted to see the title character drooling and wild-eyed in a Hannibal Lecter mask/muzzle.
The coloring made all the difference, especially after Jimmy suggested making the background blood red.

Wow, the eyes sure are piercing, especially in the red version.
ReplyDeleteHey, Kevin, I'm a fan, your work is excellent, very inspiring... I'm a colorist myself, and I'd like to know if I could take the b/w version of this cover and color it, just for fun. I saw the beautiful linework and felt the urge, hehe.
ReplyDeleteSure. Have at it.

Hi Alfredo,
ReplyDeleteI'll make a note and see if I can find a b&w copy of the inks.
Thanks!
Always liked this cover and think that Jimmy was spot on with the idea for a red background. That Jimmy, he's got a good head on his shoulders... :)
