Thanks for sharing this with all of us poor mortals Kevin
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gabriel. Those Cable pencils on your blog are amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou make me a happiest man with this words!!!! Thanks
ReplyDeleteI hate that so much depth is lost from your finished pencils to the inking stage and beyond. All the black just flattens so much out that I wish you were using different tones of gray to black for your inks to maintain it.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff though.
Ben
I agree with Ben, I think a layer of texture and tone is lost when going from pencils to inks, even with an expert inker like Kevin on his own pencils. Still a purty picture though, and I really enjoy that Modern Masters volume of Kevin's!
ReplyDeleteThis piece is great to illustrate the point that there is often nothing to separate a Kevin Nowlan personal commission from his international cover art. It's like he has one gear - and that's genius! As for texture and tone, well, when you look up close at an original black and white - and I mean really close, so close the glass mists up - well there is a lot going on.
