DC First cover art: Superman vs Lobo

From 2002.  I drew all four of these "DC 1st" covers and even (roughly) designed the logo.  Yes, I know, Superman's proportions are really exaggerated.  If I had it to do over, I might have made his waist a little less narrow, but that's how I saw it at the time.

  1. I like the idea to flip the cover.

And one thing I've got to ask, what was the logic with fading Lobo's left leg? If it was a fog effect, I could see the fading, just looks different.

  2. Yeah, one of those things that looked okay in the pencils but really didn't translate into inks very well.

  3. oh man!
    i love superman's proportion here!
    the triangular torso!
    amazing!
    it works wonderfully!
another one that kind of looses something in the coloring...

i like in the 3rd sketch the characters are drawn very differently
lobo is made of more confused lines, that seem improvised in its many details, chains and zippers and superman seems a lot more precise, simple and solid
